Mentoring and Manuscript Assessment Options

1. CRIME FICTION MANUSCRIPT ASSESSMENT: 60-90k manuscript assessment. This will include annotations and comments throughout and a 1000 word report, focusing on craft, theme, context and market potential. This assessment will also begin with a 45 minute meeting (Teams or Zoom) to discuss the proposed submission, and conclude with another 45 minute meeting. The initial meeting and submission point can be up to five weeks apart, allowing for some edits and revisions. The written report and annotations will be provided within five weeks of submission (and prior to the final meeting). £750

2. DEVELOPING A FULL LENGTH CRIME NOVEL: This programme will involve a regular series of submission points and tutorials, involving the planning, developing and writing of a full length novel. There will be an initial one hour meeting (Teams or Zoom), following the submission of a novel idea (up to 2k, note form fine). This will then be followed by three major submission points of up to 25k each. Each submission will be annotated and commented on and returned with a summary report (of up to 500 wds). A one hour follow-up tutorial will follow each submission. A final one hour meeting will address the completion, redrafting and editing of the final manuscript. Submission points and meeting dates TBC, though usually to take place within a nine month period (excluding unforeseen and exceptional circumstances). £1750

3. Developing, Finessing and Positioning a Full Length Crime Novel: Key steps of the journey will be mentored – from planning to the completion of your novel. There will be 10 one hour meetings (Teams or Zoom), and up to nine submission points over a period of 12 months. These can be an initial proposal/plan/synopsis (up to 5k, note form fine), followed by eight copy submissions of up to 10k each (80k in total). These submissions (including the plan) will be comprehensively annotated and commented on and returned within two weeks. Feedback may include suggested readings, writing tasks, further discussion of writing plans, the writing process and other forms of craft development related to the project and broader ambitions of the mentee. A one hour tutorial will then follow each of these submissions. There will then be a final meeting to discuss revisions and editing, and market approaches. Submission points and meeting dates TBC at mutually convenient times, though usually within a 12 month period (excluding unforeseen and exceptional circumstances). The mentor will also be available via email throughout the programme.  £2,500
